UFC 279: Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson live results.

Within the span of a couple of days, the intrigue and discussion around UFC 279 have seemed to grow tenfold. And things only got more crazy on the day of weigh-ins, which has led to a significant reshuffling of the card unlike anything seen perhaps since UFC 223 in 2018.

Now, the main event of UFC 279 will be a battle between fan favorites Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson.

Diaz will be competing in the last fight on his current UFC deal — and the expectation is this will be the final time Diaz competes in the Octagon.

Diaz last competed at UFC 263 in June 2021, dropping a unanimous decision to current welterweight champion Leon Edwards. That marked his first fight since losing his BMF title fight with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244.

Making his welterweight debut here, Ferguson enters this fight on a four-fight losing streak, most recently getting knocked out by Michael Chandler at UFC 274. This skid, which started with his loss in an interim lightweight title fight with Justin Gaethje, followed a 12-fight win streak for “El Cucuy” that saw him at one point claim interim lightweight gold.

Khamzat Chimaev, who was scheduled to fight Diaz in the main event before his significant weight miss, will now face Kevin Holland — who he has a significant beef with — in a five-round co-main event.

Daniel Rodriguez, who was to fight Holland, will now face Ferguson’s original opponent — Li Jingliang.
