Bellator 245: Tyrell Fortune and Jack May fight to a no-contest.

Tyrell Fortune and Jack May fought to a no-contest (accidental groin strike), Round 1 – 2:42 at Bellator 245 on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, live from Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut.

The second fight on the Bellator card ended in unfortunate fashion after an unintentional groin strike from Tyrell Fortune rendered Jack May unable to continue. With both fighters tied up against the cage, Fortune threw a violent left knee that landed directly in May’s groin.

May immediately crumpled to the ground with referee Todd Anderson calling time on the fight for the foul. May could be heard on the broadcast moaning in pain from the groin strike. The referee gave Anderson five minutes to recover and checked in on him regularly. Unfortunately, May was not able to continue. Since the third round did not begin, the fight was declared a no-contest as Anderson ruled that Fortune’s groin strike was not intentional.

After the decision was read, May was helped out of the cage by his cornermen. May was still in visible pain as he attempted to make his way back to the locker room to have a doctor diagnose his injury. The fight was not how May envisioned his Bellator debut going. May entered the fight with a career 11-6 record with eight knockouts.
