UFC Vegas 7: Joe Solecki defeated Austin Hubbard.
Joe Solecki defeated Austin Hubbard via submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1 – 3:51 at UFC Vegas 7 on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, live from UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV.
Solecki’s performance on Saturday was the type that fighters envision before they enter the Octagon. The New Jersey native made winning in the UFC look easy as he secured the first-round submission and took very limited damage.
From the opening bell, Solecki controlled the fight, out striking his opponent and taking Hubbard’s back from a standing position. Solecki fought for arm positioning with Hubbard, eventually getting underneath the chin of Hubbard. After a brief struggle, Hubbard was forced to tap out, with Herb Dean running in and stopping the fight.
“I’ve got a pretty good squeeze,” said Solecki following his victory. Solecki told Jon Anik that he thought about resetting the position and saving his legs but felt Hubbard’s arms move, allowing him to lock in the rear-naked choke.
The 26-year-old Solecki improved to 10-2 with seven submissions. The victory was the second straight UFC victory for Solecki and his fifth in a row overall. The loss dropped Hubbard’s record to 12-5.
