Few fighters get to have their UFC debut on the main card of a heavily hyped pay-per-view, but that was the opportunity that Mike Perry received. The undefeated welterweight prospect took on South Korea’s Hyun Gyu Lim on the main card of UFC 202. Both welterweights were looking to shine on the platform they were given, and show that they have a bright future ahead in their fighting careers.

Perry (6-0) was looking to keep his record flawless in his UFC debut. The Floridian knockout artist had ended every one of his fights by knockout, and wanted to continue that streak inside the Octagon. A win tonight would have made the 24-year-old an undefeated prospect to watch.

However, Lim (13-5-1) was looking to use his experience against his younger opponent. The South Korean fighter was coming off a loss to Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 66, but had won eight of his last nine fights before that. A victory here would bolster the 31-year-old’s UFC record that consisted of three wins and two losses.

Round 1: “Big” John McCarthy is the third man in the cage for this welterweight fight. The 6’3″ Lim has a six-inch reach advantage and starts using it early by attacking at range. Perry lands a couple of nice right leg kicks to Lim’s left leg. Lim catches a fight and backs Perry up to the cage with a series of punches. Mike is able circle out, and is able to drop Lim with a huge overhand right. He follows it up with several more punches, but Lim manages to survive for now. Lim gets back to his feet, only to get demolished by a big left hand. Finally, Lim fights his way back up only to get dropped a third and final time. McCarthy steps in to wave the fight off, and could’ve actually had done so earlier. Big upset win. Perry wins via TKO (Punches)
