Who is TUF 30 fighter Mohammed Usman?

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has developed into one of MMA’s biggest stars, and his brother Mohammed Usman is looking to become the next big thing.

Usman will become the second in his family to compete on The Ultimate Fighter after his brother won it all on TUF 21 over Hayder Hassan. He’ll enter TUF 30 with some big-stage MMA experience already, having fought in the PFL for the 2021 season.

While Usman lost his lone appearance in the PFL cage, he’s still a name to watch going forward. He took a big step forward in his development by earning four-straight wins during a two-year stint in Titan FC.

Usman, like his title-winning older brother, is a freak athlete. He is a former college football defensive end for the Arizona Wildcats and Houston Cougars in Division I.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Usman ahead of his PFL debut against Brandon Sayles. While he had his moments early on, Sayles was able to land a significant amount of damage in Round 2 and eventually secure the rear-naked choke.

Despite the setback, Usman has a 7-2 record, which is impressive given his relative inexperience in MMA. But, he’s been able to show off a solid ground game to go along with powerful boxing that gives his opponents fits.

Usman will no doubt have a target on his back and be a key focus of UFC president Dana White due to his older brother’s successes. But, he’s looking to prove that championship-level accolades can be genetic as he gets ready to compete in the upcoming season of TUF.

The Ultimate Fighter returns on May 3 and can be watched on ESPN+ every Tuesday.
