Fans enraged after Vadim Nemkov vs. Corey Anderson declared no contest in Grand Prix final (Video)

Vadim Nemkov retains title after an accidental head clash against Corey Anderson at Bellator 277.

Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov kept his title against Corey Anderson at Bellator 277 but left the cage with more questions than answers.

Nemkov and Anderson went toe-to-toe in the opening round of the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix Finals. Nemkov began the action by stuffing a takedown attempt from Anderson and landing his patented kicks to the body and head.

But, Anderson rallied in Rounds 2 and 3 by using his wrestling. He dominated the grappling exchanges and was able to land some heavy ground-and-pound strikes to keep Nemkov in the bottom position.

The fight would come to a screeching halt after an accidental clash of heads midway through Round 3. The doctor stopped the fight after examining a nasty cut above Nemkov’s eyebrow.

A technical decision wasn’t ruled due to the fight not being in the fourth round or later. So, the fight was ruled a no-contest with Nemkov retaining his title in one of the most unusual finishes in recent memory.

Here’s how MMA Twitter reacted to the Nemkov vs. Anderson controversial finish.

MMA Twitter had a lot to say about the Vadim Nemkov vs. Corey Anderson ending

Nemkov came into the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix Finals undefeated in his Bellator tenure, with recent dominant wins over Phil Davis and Julius Anglickas. He earned the 205-pound title over Ryan Bader at Bellator 244 following six-straight victories.

Nemkov made the move to Bellator following his win in the RIZIN Fighting World Grand Prix over Alison Vicente in 2016. He would go on to win his Bellator debut at Bellator 182 over Philipe Lins.

Anderson had been on fire since signing with Bellator following a lengthy tenure with the UFC. Despite falling short of a light heavyweight title in the UFC, he earned knockouts over the likes of Johnny Walker and Sean O’Connell.

With the victory over Nemkov, Anderson wins the Grand Prix and could return to the Bellator cage later this year for his first title defense.
