Fans of MMA get their first at the newly rebranded Eagle FC, as Eagle FC 44 is happening on Friday night, live from the FLX Arena in Miami, FL. For those not sure what Eagle FC is, this is Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s promotion that he bought and rebranded. Prior to the purchase, Eagle FC was known as Gorilla Fighting Championship.
The promotion used to be operated out of Dagestan but Nurmagoemdov has opted to move the headquarters to Miami and because of that, Eagle FC 44 will emanate live from their new home city. The card is headlined by a bunch of former UFC talent, some of whom were originally retired for a time prior to the event. The biggest of those names is former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and former standout, Ray Borg.
Headlining the show is former Pride and Bellator heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov, who’s taking on former boxing and kickboxing champion Tyrone Spong.
The promotion is trying some new things, like paying talent in Bitcoin. Former UFC star Kevin Lee wanted to be paid in the cryptocurrency, and Eagle FC was more than happy to oblige.
