At Dana White’s Contender Series Week 6 post-fight press conference, Dana White confirmed that Sean Strickland vs. Jared Cannonier was canceled.

UFC Vegas 62 was scheduled to take place at the UFC APEX on Oct.15. However, due to a gruesome finger infection, the main event between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier is off.

After UFC 276, the two victorious middleweights Isreal Adesanya and Alex Pereira seemed destined for a clash against each other. At the same time, their opponents Cannonier and Strickland were headed on the same collision course. Unfortunately, due to a finger injury sustained during training camp, Dana White has confirmed to FanSided’s Amy Kaplan that Strickland is out.

“He’s out,” White succinctly said when asked about Strickland’s finger infection. Strickland expressed via his Instagram that the infection was likely caused by oral contact, which is fairly common with bite injuries.

White also revealed they would not be finding an opponent for Cannonier, but did not announce a new main event for the card.
