History is on the line at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles tonight.

Since the Home Run Derby first debuted during the MLB All-Star break in 1985, only three players have ever won back-to-back championships: Ken Griffey Jr (1998-1999), Yoenis Cespedes (2013-2014), and Pete Alonso (2019-2021, no HR Derby in 2020 due to the pandemic).

Should the New York Mets slugger take the crown this evening from Chavez Revine, he would be the first player to win three straight in league history.

Alonso currently sits as the favorite at WynnBET Sportsbook tonight at +200 odds. In an era where in-game home runs have become more difficult to come by, it's been the opposite effect at this event. Alonso stands out with a massive 131 home runs during his two years participating in the Derby. That's 32 more than Joc Pederson of the L.A. Dodgers; sitting in second place with 99 total dingers.

Here are the complete odds for every participant tonight.

MLB Home Run Derby 2022 Odds

  1. Pete Alonso (Mets) +200
  2. Kyle Schwarber (Phillies) +330

  5. Julio Rodriguez (Mariners) +850
  6. Corey Seager (Rangers) +900

Home Run Derby Pick and Prediction

With two championships to his name in the last two years, it feels impossible to back anyone but Alonso tonight. Not only has he hit by far and away the most home runs in Derby history, but he never seems to run out of gas either.

Last year, Alonso broke Vladimir Guerrero Jr's first-round record of 29 home runs with a whopping 35; defeating Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez who put up 28 in the first!. Alonso ended up taking the crown over Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles 23-22. If you were to create-a-player designed specifically for this kind of event, Alonso is that dude.

However, if you're looking for a dark horse candidate to consider, I really like Juan Soto at 6/1 odds.

While Alonso and Ohtani were the stories of last year, it was Soto who knocked out the reigning AL MVP Ohtani in the first round with a double swing-off.

In the second round, Alonso knocked out Soto by a single home run, so revenge is fresh on the mind between the two NL East rivals.

With news coming out that Soto's camp recently turned down a 15-year, $440 million extension to remain in Washington, I expect the 23-year old to put on a show in Hollywood tonight as he continues to bet on himself.

PICK: Juan Soto (+600) to win the Home Run Derby
