Jimmy Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield must feel like a couple of teenagers eagerly awaiting somebody to ask them to prom. The two are on an island right now, and their options are beginning to dwindle as teams continue to scoop up quarterbacks to fill in their current gaps.

With the quarterback carousel mostly done, the 49ers are in danger of not getting much in return for Garoppolo in a trade. The Browns don’t have the same issues, as they have already signed Mayfield’s replacement before he was even traded away. There are a lot of WTF decisions being made on both of these teams right now.

I wanted to take a look at which of these stranded quarterbacks might be the first to escape his current team. There are no odds for this right now at WynnBET Sportsbook, so Iet's just create our own for a bit of fun.

Which QB will be Traded FIrst?

  • Baker Mayfield: -500
  • Jimmy Garoppolo: +350

Baker Mayfield -500

Mayfield gets the edge here for one major reason. The Browns already traded for, and paid, his replacement in DeShaun Watson. Cleveland traded for the controversial QB after his criminal sexual assault charges were dropped and paid him $230 million on top of it. Should help him with those 22 civil lawsuits still pending. Oh, the Browns also signed Jacoby Brisset.

So what does this mean for Mayfield? Quite simply, this is the Browns' way of making it obvious they don’t need him anymore. All signs point to both parties wanting out of this marriage with the Browns stating that they don’t even want a first-round pick for Mayfield. So, the price is low, and both sides want out.

The problems here are that Mayfield is coming off surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, and he has a guaranteed $18.8 million salary next year. This leaves the Browns in a bit of a quandary. They have basically no leverage in the trade market and will be forced to pay him if they can’t unload his contract.

Jimmy Garoppolo +350

The 49ers seem less committed to getting rid of Garoppolo than the Browns are to unloading Mayfield. While everyone expects the move to happen, there has been a lot of faffing about. Hell, the team still hasn't even announced who their planned starter will be in 2022. That is because nobody knows how this is going to play out with the 49ers and Jimmy G.

Both sides want out but are not making the moves needed to facilitate Garoppolo’s exit. Shoulder surgery in March didn’t help and now the 49ers are trying to sell teams on a huge question mark. He won’t be able to throw until July and that is not something most teams will take a chance on. Until there is more news about his shoulder issue, I think no team touches this guy. The Niners really shot themselves in the foot here.
