The New York Jets are a team on the rise, but how much can we trust them?

After a great offseason, the Jets have some momentum and could become the surprise team of the year. With Zach Wilson ready to step into his second season and Robert Saleh ready to prove he’s the right man for the job, will we finally see the Jets move in the right direction?

New York Jets 2022 Offseason Moves and Signings

  • Draft Ahmad “Sauce”  Gardner and Garrett Wilson in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL Draft
  • Exercised the fifth-year option for DT Quinnen Williams
  • Signed DT Vinny Curry
  • Signed TE C.J. Uzomah

New York Jets 2022 Schedule

It’s going to be tough sledding for the Jets this season, as sharpfootballanalysis.com ranks their schedule as the sixth-toughest in the league. Playing in the same division as the Bills, Patriots and Dolphins – all potential playoff teams – doesn’t help much.

The Jets have their bye week in Week 10, and that will be a much-needed rest. New York plays eight teams that finished above .500 last season before its bye week. If the Jets can get through that with three wins, then their win total projection will still be intact.

New York Jets 2022 Win Total Prediction

  • OVER 5.5 Wins (-175)
  • UNDER 5.5 wins (+145)

After being heralded as the winners of the NFL Draft, optimism for the Jets is the highest it's been in quite some time. They are the real life version of the Madden team you build with low overalls ready to take the league by storm. To their credit, the Jets played hard last season and had a lot of close losses.

I think the Jets take a step forward in 2022, with the weapons they added on offense, and surpass their win total. I’m not thrilled about the price on it because I still feel there’s a lot of variance with the Jets, but New York is moving in the right direction.

Zach Wilson will have a lot of targets to throw to and two backs that can make plays in space. If he can get the ball into the hands of his playmakers, New York should be better than the 28th best offense in the league.

New York had five losses last season by one touchdown or fewer. If some of those go their way and they cut down on the blowouts, this is a team that could potentially sneak an extra win into its final record.

The Jets have a lot to prove, but I see their glass as half full right now, so I’ll back them.

Pick: OVER 5.5 Wins (-175)

New York Jets 2022 Odds to Win AFC East, AFC, and Super Bowl

  • To Make the Playoffs: +700
  • Odds to Win AFC East: +2200
  • Odds to Win AFC: +7500
  • Odds to Win Super Bowl 57: +13000

This isn’t a Jets team that is ready to be judged by how many wins they can pile up. OBviously the wins are good and you want them, but this season is going to be defined by the eye test and whether New York feels comfortable with Zach Wilson as its quarterback moving forward. The skill position pieces are there to be successful, but the division is loaded and the Jets are still a long way from thinking about any championships.
