The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers face off for Game 2 of their opening-round Stanley Cup Playoff series. The Penguins took Game 1 on the road at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night by a final score of 4-3. Jake Guentzel led the charge with two goals for Pittsburgh in this statement game.

Pittsburgh enters this game as slight road dogs coming off their Game 1 win. These Metropolitan division rivals match up quite well and I expect New York to bounce back tonight at home.

Here are the odds for tonight’s matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Penguins vs. Rangers Prediction and Pick

It might have taken three overtime periods, but the Penguins finally emerged with a win thanks to Evgeni Malkin’s tip-in goal to give PIt the OT win. While the win was massive for the Penguins, they didn’t get out of Game 1 unscathed. Starting goalie Casey Desmith left the game during the second overtime period with a lower-body injury. His status for Thursday has yet to be announced. However, his replacement Louis Domingue stepped up and made 17 saves before Makin’s deflection goal with 5:58 left in the game. It would be a big deal if Desmith missed Game 2 and Domingue is forced to play the whole game.

The Penguins are also dealing with injuries to Nathan Beaulieu, Tristan Jarry, Jason Zucker, and Rickard Rakell. Jarry and Zucker are already ruled out while the remaining guys are questionable to suit up tonight. If Desmith sits, the Penguins will be down to just one goalie on the active roster.

I think that with Domingue likely starting on Thursday, this gives the Rangers a huge advantage. He’s not a bad goalie mind you. Yet, he is not the No. 1 starter for a reason. This will give the Rangers a great chance to even this series up before it heads to Pittsburgh for Game 3.

Pick: Rangers -140 ML
