Just under a year ago, the 2021 WNBA All-Star Game featured one of the craziest line moves in betting history.

The USA Basketball women's team ended up playing against the WNBA All-Stars in a different format, and Vegas failed to take into consideration that it would be a much more competitive, defensive battle. As a result, the total moved an astonishing 53.5 points from where it opened!

This year, bettors should expect the opposite. In the 2022 All Star Game in Chicago, there will be multiple areas on the floor with a 4-point line 28 feet away from the net, as well as a 20 second shot clock. For some of the great shooters in the league like Kelsey Plum, Arike Ogunbuwale, Nneka Ogwumike and of course, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, we may see plenty of deep-range attempts and lots of pointing flying on the scoreboard.

Lastly, the concept of "you gotta make your free throws" need not apply, as free throw attempts will be automatic points up until the final two minutes of the game.

Sounds like we'll see a game total well past last year's 93-85 final!

Here are the latest odds for this afternoon's matchup from Wintrust Arena via DraftKings Sportsbook.

WNBA All-Star Game Prediction and Pick

For the second consecutive year, it appears the sportsbooks opened the number too high. Not all of them were first to open, but those who did appeared to take a ton of bets on the under at 279.5; as Vegas perhaps adjusted too heavily to the updated rule changes.

While I may be slightly late to the party in taking the under, I actually expect the opportunity to gain extra points with the faster shot clock, as well as the 4-point line may actually take away opportunities to score more consistently.

Every player on the floor will want to take an attempt or two to deliver on the 4-pointer from way downtown, and while I'm sure plenty will hit, I expect several more misses from there than from the usual 3-point distance where players have gotten extremely comfortable this season.

We'll still see a track meet in Chicago today, but just not at this number. Personally, I'll likely wait until in-game to consider a wager, knowing the pace will likely slow down slightly if it's a competitive game heading into the 4th quarter.

LEAN: UNDER 268.5 (-110)
