The 2023 college football season is drawing closer and one of the key storylines will be who can dethrone USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner.

The 2022 winner Williams is off a historic season as he lead the Trojans to a 11-3 season. However, there are plenty of worthy contenders in 2023 with several of the best teams transitioning to new quarterbacks and the likes of Texas' Quinn Ewers and Clemson's Cade Klubnik looking to take the next step as QB's of premiere programs, but unproven to date.

The key for Williams is if he can follow up a monster season and avoid voter fatigue. He combined for 52 total touchdowns and passed for 4,537 yards while leading one of the most potent offenses in the country in the PAC-12.

Williams had plenty of highlight worthy plays and dazzled all season en route to the Heisman Trophy.

However, he is going up against history as only one player has won back-to-back awards -- Archie Griffin in 1974 and 1975.

Williams is the only player inside of +1000 entering the seasons, but 11 players are behind Williams on the odds boards and shorter than +2000.

Of course, winning the award is blending team success with performance, leading me to have an eye on players like Ewers, who headlines a star-studded Longhorns offense that is favored to win the Big 12. Further, sophomore Klubnik joins forces with offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, who was calling the plays for TCU's National Championship runner up offense in hopes of being the first Clemson player to lift the Heisman Trophy.

Other names like J.J. McCarthy of Michigan and Jordan Travis of Florida State hope to anchor high-powered offenses as returning starters with College Football Playoff upside.

Everybody is looking up at Williams, but it's tough to decipher who will make a run at him this season, and it'll surely be a hot button topic this summer. For now, here are the odds:
