3 Best Landing Spots for Dyson Daniels in 2022 NBA Draft
By Matt De Saro
The 2022 NBA Draft goes live on Thursday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the rumor mill is popping off.
What makes this year exciting is there is no clear No. 1 pick for the Orlando Magic to take. Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith are both strong opinions but we won’t know until Thursday night how things will go.
But this article isn’t about those two, it's about probable top 10 pick Dyson Daniels. The 6-8 Guard from Australia has a lot to like. He played well in the G League Ignite with 11.3 PPG and 4.4 assists per game. Hell, the kid grew 2 inches from the start of the G League season until the end. He had a great combine and Daniels impressed during his team interviews. He’s not quite a top 5 guy but there are a ton of teams that can benefit from his talent on the court. Let’s look at the three best landing spots for Daniels on Thursday night.
New Orleans Pelicans (No. 8)
The Pelicans can really use a guy with Daniel’s specific size and skillset. He could even be a day 1 starter for the Pelicans and slot in next to CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram in the backcourt. He is a versatile player who could develop into a top-tier guard if he clicks with the aforementioned guards and Zion. Plus, his defensive abilities could help the Pelicans crack the top 10 in points allowed this year after finishing 13th in 2022.
Portland Trail Blazers (No. 7)
Despite having Damien Lillard on the team, the Blazers need a lot of help at the guard position. They ended the year with most of their guards out injured and it showed that this team lacks depth, among other things. The Trail Blazers were also one of the worst defensive teams in the league last year and could use Daniel's length to try and combat that.
Sacramento Kings (No. 4)
I am not sure that the Kings will want to reach for Daniels with the No. 4 pick on Thursday. But, at certain points during this whole process, he was expected to crack the Top 5 so this is not outside of the realm of possibility. Daniels also was filmed speaking very highly of the Kings in interviews. This is something that does not happen often so I thought it warranted pointing out.
The Kings are in need of the type of defense-first mentality that Daniels brings. Sacramento would also do well to bring in some versatility.
