3 Best NFL Teams to Bet the OVER on This Season
By Josh Yourish
Who doesn’t love points? NFL Overs are some of the most fun bets to make, but they haven’t been the most profitable this season. Only nine NFL teams have had the Over hit in over 50% of their games. This has been the year of the defense, so if you’re taking an Over in the NFL this season, it’s important to know the best teams to bet the Over on. Here are the three best records to the Over this season, so you know what games to expect points.
Chicago Bears 9-4
The Bears have been an over machine since they traded away their two best defensive players, Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith, but the bigger reason is Justin Fields. Fields looked like the worst quarterback from his draft class at the start of this season, but offensive coordinator Luke Getsy unleashed him in Week 7 and they’ve averaged 25.3 points a game in the seven games since. Perhaps more importantly, they’re allowing 30.7 points a game over that same stretch.
Detroit Lions 8-4
The NFC North has been a high-scoring division this season. It’s not just good offenses either. It’s mostly been bad defense that is leading to overs being profitable. The Lions have the worst scoring defense in the NFL, allowing 27.0 points a game this season. Their Jared Goff-led offense has been very solid as well, averaging 26.3 points, which is sixth best in the NFL. They are giving up 6.2 yards per play, worst in the league and gain 5.8 yards per play, 8th best. Keep taking overs in Detroit because the cold weather won’t hurt them in the dome.
Philadelphia Eagles 8-4
The Eagles have jumped into the top 3, when they were outside of it just two weeks ago. It’s not surprising that they’ve gotten here because of how good their offense has been. The last two weeks they victimized one of the worst rushing defenses in the league for 363 rushing yards and 40 points and then picked apart the worst passing defense in football for 35 points. Their defense is stout, so that is driving the totals down and allowing the over to cash, but if Vegas adjusts they might not be as safe of an over team. The Eagles allow the fewest yards per play in all of football, 4.7 and are 8th in scoring defense.
