3 Best Prop Bets for Colts vs. 49ers Sunday Night Football
By Thomas Snodgrass
The San Francisco 49ers host the Indianapolis Colts at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for this week's Sunday Night Football matchup.
The 49ers are 4-point favorites this evening, but heavy rain and gusting winds could play a major factor, moving the over/under from 44 down to 42.5.
The Colts picked up a big 31-3 win over their AFC South division rival Texans last week as running back Jonathan Taylor stole the show; collecting 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries.
Meanwhile, San Francisco took a 17-10 loss to their NFC West division rival Arizona Cardinals in Week 5. Trey Lance got the start under center, but Jimmy Garoppolo makes his return in Week 7.
Here are three prop bets to take for Sunday Night Football tonight, with odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
Carson Wentz OVER 199.5 Passing Yards (-110)
Only two quarterbacks have failed to throw 200 yards against the 49ers this season, Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. Hurts and Wilson only attempted 23 passes each in their appearances against San Francisco, and Wentz has attempted at least 31 passes in every game except for last week’s rout over Houston.
More attempts usually means more completions, which usually means more yards. If Jared Goff can throw for 338 yards against the 49ers, Wentz can throw for 200.
Jonathan Taylor OVER 67.5 Rushing Yards (-110)
The 49ers currently have the 18th-ranked rushing defense, allowing 113.2 rushing yards per game. That number is pretty average, but they haven’t even faced any really great running backs this season. Aaron Jones of the Green Bay Packers is the best running back they have lined up against, and Jones gathered 82 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.
It’s hard to trust Kyle Shanahan’s running back carousel in San Francisco, but the Colts will give plenty of work to Jonathan Taylor. I’m backing Taylor to surpass his rushing yards total in this one.
Nyheim Hines to Score a Touchdown (+375)
If Indianapolis is going to win this game, they are going to need more players to step up, this is not the Houston Texans.
Wentz spreads the ball around to different receivers, but running back Nyheim Hines is the third-most targeted receiver on the Colts through six weeks, and the Colts could deploy him quite often in third down and passing situations this week.
When Indianapolis finds their offense in the redzone, keep an eye out for No. 21 for the Colts. Hines has one rushing touchdown this season, but can be a matchup problem in short yardage situations, and could snag his first touchdown through the air.
