3 Best Prop Bets for Padres vs. Dodgers in NLDS Game 1 (Mike Clevinger Could Be in Trouble)
By Peter Dewey
The San Diego Padres pulled off a massive upset in the wild card round, knocking off the 101-win New York Mets to advance to the NLDS.
Now, they get a crack at the Los Angeles Dodgers, who dominated them in the regular season. However, in the playoffs, everything changes.
If you’re looking to add several bets to your betslip for the night game, there are a few props in this matchup that I think have value compared to betting on Los Angeles as a major favorite.
Let’s break them down:
Best Prop Bets for Padres vs. Dodgers Game 1
- Mike Clevinger OVER 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
- Mookie Betts OVER 1.5 Total Bases
- Julio Urias to Record a Win
Mike Clevinger OVER 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Mike Clevinger has been downright awful against the Dodgers this season, posting a 9.69 ERA in three starts. He’s allowed four, five and five earned runs in his games against them.
Sure, the Padres may have a quicker hook with Clevinger tonight, but they also can’t afford to use their entire bullpen in Game 1 after using their top three starters in the wild card round. I think the Dodgers jump on Clevinger early.
Mookie Betts OVER 1.5 Total Bases
Sticking with the theme of fading Clevinger, Mookie Betts has been terrific against the Padres righty in his MLB career.
Betts is 7-for-14 with a double, triple and four runs batted in against Clevinger. With his OVER on 1.5 total bases being at plus money, I think Betts is a great pick, as he may put together a multi-hit game against Clevinger alone.
Julio Urias to Record a Win
Julio Urias was one of the best pitchers in baseball in the regular season, and he beat the Padres in all three of his outings against them.
The Dodgers are 21-10 in Urias’ starts this season, and the lefty has earned the win in 17 of those 21 victories. I expect Clevinger to get knocked around early, which should clear the way for Urias to hold on and get a win.
At plus money, this is a more appealing way to back Los Angeles to win than taking its moneyline.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
