3 Bold Predictions for Dodgers vs. Giants NLDS Game 5
By Peter Dewey
UPDATE: Corey Knebel, not Julio Urias, will start Game 5 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's possible that Urias will be on the mound at some point in the game, but he will not start as previously expected.
What follows are three bold predictions for tonight's game prior to the announcement that Urias would not start.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have played a series for the ages in the NLDS and it all comes down to tonight’s Game 5.
WynnBET Sportsbook has this game about as close as you can get, as the Dodgers are -102 on the moneyline while the Giants are slight favorites at home at -106 odds. The total for the game is set at 6.5 runs (Over -125/Under +105).
Logan Webb, who pitched a gem for the Giants in Game 1 will get the ball against Julio Urias who returned the favor with a great game of his own in Game 2.
Here are three bold predictions for tonight’s matchup with all odds via WynnBET:
Kris Bryant to Hit a Home Run (+445)
Why not start off bold predictions with arguably the boldest one of all?
The Giants and Dodgers aren’t expected to score many runs in this game, but it’s possible that one mistake could win the series. I’m betting on Bryant to be the guy who potentially gets to Urias, as he’s a career .298 hitter with 50 homers against left-handed pitching in his career.
Bryant also has fared well against Urias in his career, going 4-for-13 (.308) with a homer and one walk in 14 plate appearances. He’s definitely worth a shot at +445, which is tied for the longest odds of any Giants hitter.
Logan Webb UNDER 4.5 Hits Allowed (+104)
WynnBET has yet to release an earned runs prop for Webb, but you can back him in this prediction by taking the under on his hits allowed (4.5) which is at favorable +104 odds.
Webb threw 7.2 innings of scoreless ball in Game 1, and he pitched 16.0 innings against the Dodgers in the regular season allowing just four earned runs. The Dodgers hit just .127 against Webb this season, as he allowed just seven hits to them all season.
Oddsmakers are expecting this to be a low-scoring affair with the total at 6.5, and I like Webb to continue his breakout season tonight.
Race to Five Runs -- Neither Team (+110)
Both of these pitchers are coming into this game off a great start, and I think we see another low-scoring matchup in Game 5.
The Giants have failed to reach five runs in any game in this series while the Dodgers scored nine and seven runs in their two wins. With tonight being a win-or-go-home scenario, don’t expect either manager to let their pitching staff let this game get out of hand.
