3 Bold Predictions for Jonathan Taylor in Jets vs. Colts
By Thomas Snodgrass
Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor was recently named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. Taylor is the first running back for the Colts to receive the award since Edgerrin James in October 2005.
Taylor ran for 478 rushing yards and six touchdowns and added 195 receiving yards and a touchdown on 13 catches. Taylor reached 100 total yards or more in all five games last month, the only player to do so, and had at least one touchdown in each game.
It was a great month of October, but what will Taylor do tonight on Thursday Night Football against the New York Jets?
Here are three bold predictions for Jonathan Taylor, odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
Three Bold Predictions for Jonathan Taylor in Jets vs. Colts
- Taylor OVER 2.5 Receptions (-130)
- Taylor OVER 18.5 Receiving Yards (-125)
- Taylor UNDER 88.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
Taylor OVER 2.5 Receptions (-130)
Last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jets allowed running back Joe Mixon to find more success in the passing game than he did on the ground, and I expect it to be similar for Taylor this week.
The Jets have allowed at least four catches to a running back in every game this season, and in four out of seven games, the leading receiver against the Jets was a running back.
Wentz is a quarterback that checks down and looks in the flat often. He will find Taylor in that spot several times on Thursday night.
Taylor OVER 18.5 Receiving Yards (-125)
Christian McCaffrey had 89 receiving yards against New York’s defense in Week 1, Jeremy McNichols had 74 receiving yards against the Jets’ defense in Week 4, Brandon Bolden had 79 receiving yards against them in Week 7.
The Jets frequently allow large chunks of receiving yards to running backs. It should be no different for Taylor.
Even if Nyheim Hines finds time in the backfield Thursday night, I’d expect plenty of Taylor after his recent performances.
Taylor UNDER 88.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
Taylor is second in the NFL in rushing yards behind the now-hurt Tennessee Titans running back, Derrick Henry. Taylor is still only averaging 81.1 rushing yards per game.
The Jets’ passing defense has been a weak point all year, and I would expect Indianapolis’ head coach Frank Reich to attack it. The Colts will still run plenty in this game, but a series of passing plays could put them ahead early, and that could lead to more running backs getting into the mix; such as Hines and Marlon Mack.
Taylor will get his carries, but in a short week, there could be a rotation.
