3 Bold Predictions for Magic vs. 76ers: Bet on Embiid to Build on Epic Return
By Matt De Saro
Joel Embiid returned to the Philadelphia 76ers' lineup and lit up the scoreboard in an OT loss to the Timberwolves over the weekend. Now, after a few days of rest, he's back in action against the Orlando Magic at home.
The is a great chance for Embiid to build off his return to action against one of the worst defenses in the league. With a shot to shine again tonight, along with the rest of this offense, let's take a look at some prop bets and make a few calls.
Here are three bold predictions for tonight’s game with prop odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
3 Bold Predictions for 76ers vs Magic
- Joel Embiid OVER 24.5 Points (-115)
- Joel Embiid OVER 10.5 Rebounds (-120)
- Tyrese Maxey OVER 5.5 Assists (+100)
Joel Embiid OVER 24.5 Points (-115)
After sitting out 10 straight games due to COVID-19, Joel Embiid returned in grand fashion, scoring 42 points and snagging 14 rebounds in 45 minutes. The OT loss was the second-most minutes Embiid has ever played and he looked hungry to get back to the team and make a difference. Embiid added three assists, two blocks and made 16-of-21 free throws.
Embiid is the best player this team has and now that he is back I expect the offense to run through him. Embiid is averaging 23.5 PPG and after Saturday night’s performance, it feels like he is just getting started.
The minutes are a little scary heading into tonight but he looked so ready to go and this is such a great spot that it’s impossible to pass up.
The Magic are the 29th ranked team in terms of defensive rating and have allowed 110.9 PPG to opponents. With the momentum Embiid will have after his successful return, I think he goes off again tonight.
Joel Embiid OVER 10.5 Rebounds (-120)
A lot of what I said about Embiid applies to this prop as well. And while he is averaging “only” 10.0 rebounds per game, the Magic are not a very good team on the glass. Orlando ranks 20th in the NBA in rebounding percentage, surrendering 47.2 rebounds per game.
Oh, and let's not forget that Mo Bamba is listed as questionable for tonight with a back injury. Even if he does suit up, back injuries are very nagging and he likely won’t be at 100 percent. This only adds to the value of this matchup.
Tyrese Maxey OVER 5.5 Assists (+100)
If Embiid has a chance at another 30+ point night, he will need somebody feeding him the ball against the Magic. Enter Tyrese Maxey. The second-year point guard leads the 76ers in assists with 4.9 per game including nine in Embiid's first game back.
The Magic, predictably, rank 27th in the NBA in opponent assists per game and 29th in opponent assist to turnover ratio.
Again, this is as much of a fade of the Magic defense as it is my faith in Maxey but he should be able to go over this total tonight.
