3 Coaches Lakers Should Hire to Replace Frank Vogel
The Los Angeles Lakers’ season is officially over.
After a loss to the Suns and a Spurs victory over the Nuggets, there is no mathematical way for the Lakers to make the playoffs.
That immediately puts them in offseason mode and from the looks of it, one of the first moves is to get rid of head coach Frank Vogel.
“Now, as the finish line for this tumultuous 2021-22 campaign mercifully arrives, the Lakers are still expected to part ways with embattled play-caller Frank Vogel, sources told B/R, and the anticipated vacancy on Los Angeles’ bench has produced no shortage of potential candidates linked to fill the position,” said Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
UPDATE: Frank Vogel Officially Let Go By Lakers
Vogel was let go early Monday afternoon by the Lakers. The team sent out a thank you post on social media after Vogel helped bring them a championship in the bubble in 2000.
Here are three coaches the Lakers should consider to replace Vogel.
Who Should Replace Frank Vogel as Head Coach of the Lakers?
Kenny Atkinson
Atkinson left the Nets two seasons ago and has been an assistant coach in Golden State and in Los Angeles for the Clippers since then. He led the Nets to one playoff appearance in three full seasons, but it was clear Atkinson could coach. He would bring a modern approach to the Lakers’ offense and would bring a respectable presence to the Lakers.
Quin Snyder
Now Synder isn’t a free agent coach right now. Just wait until the summer. When the Jazz decide to blow their team up, Synder could be the one to go as well. With all the instability the Lakers have had, Synder would bring consistency to the franchise. On top of that, Utah has had one of the best offenses in the league for several years, and that’s with Rudy Gobert on the floor. The Lakers need good offense and Synder can provide that.
Sam Cassell
It was rumored that Doc Rivers may be in play for the Lakers, but Cassell should be the way to go. A young coach who’s sat behind one of the most tenured coaches in the league is a good sell. Also, Cassell has a chance to be like Tyron Lue in the sense that he could be a player’s coach. If LeBron James can get his way and have the rest of the team respect the coach, that’s the way to go.
