The World Cup is here and that means it’s time for us to lock in our futures bets. While most of us are looking at Brazil, Argentina and France to take home the trophy, we shouldn't overlook teams further down the list.

There is always a team that makes a surprising run (i.e. Croatia in 2018) and has a chance to surprise the world. This is our chance to get ahead of the run.

Here are three dark horse countries to bet to win the 2022 World Cup.

Portugal  (+1500 To Win World Cup)

Although his latest stint with Manchester United has been a disaster, Ronaldo is still one of the most feared strikers in the world. If he’s leading your attack, you have a chance. The national team is 5-2-1 in 2022. They are the overwhelming favorites to win their group, which will give them a decent draw in the knockout stage.

They had a solid run in the Euros in 2021, but lost in the Round of 16 – without Ronaldo. If their lead man can return to form, Portugal is certainly equipped to make a run.

Denmark (+2400 To Win World Cup)

Denmark has had a fantastic last couple of years and comes into this tournament with a lot of momentum. The squad won nine of its 10 World Cup qualifying matches – which is still impressive against bad competition. It made it to the semi finals of the Euros, losing to England after Harry Kane scored a goal in the 104th minute. Then, it beat France twice in 2022 during Nations League games.

They have proven they can compete on a high level against the world’s best. With a group that should be easy to qualify from, the Danes have an extremely high ceiling.

Uruguay (+3800 To Win World Cup)

Uruguay had a rough 2021. The team lost its last four WC qualifying matches and needed a big 2022 to get to the tournament. That’s exactly what it did. Uruguay is unbeaten in 2022 and has a good chance of winning its group. The Uruguayans have made it past the Round of 16 in two of the last three World Cups – losing in the quarter finals in 2018. With a good history here and Luis Suarez up front, they are worth a shot.
