The Super Bowl is officially in the books, which offers a great opportunity to start our early futures bets before the lines move. With free agency ahead, as well as trades and the NFL Draft, now might be the most opportunistic time to jump into the early odds.

This year's list is a little more wide open compared to a season ago. Both the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs opened as the co-favorites to win Super Bowl 57 at +700 odds at WynnBET Sportsbook, with the Cincinnati Bengals, L.A. Rams, and San Francisco 49ers behind them at +1200.

Interestingly enough, the Denver Broncos, who finished the 2021 season at 7-10 and in last place in the AFC West, have the second-highest odds in the division behind the Chiefs, and sixth-shortest odds overall to win the Super Bowl at 15-1.

After that, the field remains wide open. Here are three teams I like at odds of +1800 or larger to be in contention for next year.

2023 Super Bowl Dark Horse Bets

  • Dallas Cowboys +1800
  • New England Patriots +3000
  • Pittsburgh Steelers +7500

Dallas Cowboys +1800

Sure, it's easy to get off our jokes about the Cowboys with Mike McCarthy leading the way, but Dallas is still the best team in a bad division with an elite quarterback and offense.

The Cowboys finished the 2021 season with the number one offense in the NFL in both points scored and yards gained. They finished with the third most passing touchdowns in the NFL and second in the league in yards.

Dallas also returns both Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn at offensive and defensive coordinator as neither candidate left for any available head coaching jobs. With Aaron Rodgers expected to leave Green Bay, this may be the most opportune time to jump on the Cowboys before the odds move.

New England Patriots +3000

It was only a month or two ago where the conversation surrounding New England was that of a legitimate contender in the AFC. While they got blown out by their division rival Buffalo Bills in the playoffs, they'll return the second-best defense in points allowed from a season ago, as well as an up-and-coming quarterback in Mac Jones who enters his sophomore season in the league.

The Pats will need some more consistency from their wide receivers, as Jakobi Meyers led the team in targets and receptions but only got into the end zone twice. However, look for Jones, like many other young talented quarterbacks to take a major leap forward in New England's offense with a full year under his belt.

Pittsburgh Steelers +7500

This is all dependent on what the Steelers do at the quarterback position to replace the retiring Ben Roethlisberger. If they decide to build through the draft, then this is a moot bet. But if they somehow land Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or another very serviceable veteran and fix their offensive line issues, this could be a team that remains in the mix next year despite a very tough division.

Via Pro Football Focus, Pittsburgh's O-line finished 26th of 32 teams in their rankings for the end of the 2021 season. But with talented playmakers on both sides of the ball, the Steelers with the right veteran quarterback, they're worth a shot at these long of odds.
