3 Monday Night Football Bold Predictions for Bills vs. Titans
By Matt De Saro
Two teams atop their divisions are slated to go head-to-head on Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Titans will play host to the Bills in a very important game for two teams looking to extend their respective leads in the AFC South and AFC East.
The Bills are riding a four-game win streak and are coming off a dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The team is playing excellent on both sides of the ball and sits atop or near the top of the league in several significant statistical categories.
The Titans, meanwhile, handed the Jaguars their latest of a long line of losses dating back years. The week before that, they lost the lowly Jets. Their offensive line is a little suspect and their pass rush outright sucks, but they are still leading their division and a win here would put them in the convo of the top AFC teams in 2021.
Here are three bold predictions for this Monday Night Football matchup with odds from WynnBET Sportsbook.
Derrick Henry has a ‘bad’ game
A 'bad game' for Henry is a far cry from what other players would consider a 'bad game', so don’t think that this prediction is a knock on Henry or his game. It boils down to the incredible success that the Bills rushing defense has had this season.
The way that Tennesee relies on Henry as a weapon is unrivaled in the NFL. The RB is arguable overworked with an average of 31.25 rushes per game and he leads the league with 142 touches on the ground. To put that in perspective, the second-place player, Alvin Kamara, has ‘just’ 94 carries on the year and is one of only four players in the league with more than 80 rushes. Based on this, it is safe to say that Henry is used almost twice as much as the average starting running back in the NFL.
But, the Bills rushing defense is just that good that I think they can’t just send him running into a wall 30+ times in this game. I think this game for Henry mirrors more of what his Week 1 performance was like where he totaled only 17 touches against the Cardinals. Buffalo ranks well ahead of the Cardinals in every relevant defensive category and is top 3 in rushing yards allowed and opposing rushing attempts.
Henry's rushing total is right around 99 yards at WynnBET and I think it's a great spot to fade this superstar player.
Devin Singletary has his Best Game of the Season
While I think Henry will struggle Monday night, I think this is a great spot for his counterpart, Devin Singletary, to explode for a big game. The Bills use their ground attack as their primary offensive weapon and Josh Allen is able to really open up and get creative on the ground.
I think this is a game which Singletary needs to bounce back after a rough showing last week against the Chiefs. With just 6 rushes for 25 yards and 1 catch for -2 yards, it was his worst statistical showing of the year.
With the skills to make plays in the air and on the ground, the Bills will need him to be versatile in this game and he should see a lot of usages.
One issue is Zack Moss cutting into Singletary’s work but I think that the Bills will use this matchup to get their starter back on track.
The Bills make it five in a row
It would be hard to argue that the Bills look like the team to beat in the AFC after crushing the Chiefs to win their fourth game on the trot. Despite the Chiefs not quite looking like the team they were expected to be, they have a great roster and that was a statement win for the Bills. Now, they head to face the Titans on the road and will need this win to keep their lead in the AFC East.
As mentioned before in this article, the Bills defense firing on all cylinders right now. They have a top-3 squad in almost every relevant defensive metric and I see no way that the Titans of all teams have much of a shot to break through that wall. With Henry being bottled up by one of the best rushing defenses in the league and a secondary that is nothing to shake a stick at, the Titans won’t have the weapons to hang and will fail to win their fourth game of the season.
