The Philadelphia Eagles are one team I am particularly interested in seeing once the 2022 season kicks off. Jalen Hurts is back under center, and the Eagles brought in a powerful weapon in A.J. Brown to help take this offense to the next level. Along with DeVonta Smith and Miles Sander, this could be a candidate for breakout team of the year.

But, to do so, they have to clear a few hurdles along the way. I wanted to take a look at a few of those hurdles and preview the three biggest games the Eagles have to navigate in 2022.

Dallas Cowboys

This is automatically the biggest matchup for the Eagles in 2022 as they will be the Cowboys' biggest challenge for the NFC East. The Eagles play the Cowboys twice this year and are in the midst of a three-game losing streak against Dallas. Hurts is 0-2 as a starter and Dallas is the final boss keeping the Eagles out of the top spot in the division. A win in Dallas would be huge, but a sweep of their Rivals would set them up to run away with the NFC East.

Chicago Bears

The Eagles head to Soldier Field for the first time since the 2019 playoffs. Much has changed in the last few years with two young, mobile quarterbacks running things under center. The Eagles are a bit further along in their race to be contenders, but the Bears post a challenge for any defense with Justin Fields’ mobility. However, the Eagles are 5-0 in the last five games against the Bears and haven’t dropped a game against them on the road in over a decade. This game will be a good test as to whether or not the Eagles have risen to the rank of a top tier team.

Washington Commanders

Getting back to division games, the Eagles played the Commanders twice this year along with their new quarterback, Carson Wentz. So this is a reunion matchup for Wentz and the Eagles along with being a big matchup in the NFC East. It’s more likely the Eagles go 2-0 against the Commanders than the Cowboys, and the Eagles need all the division wins they can get to keep up with Dallas. But the Commanders are far from an easy win if their offense meshes. With an offense featuring Terry McLauren, Antonio Gibson, and Curtis Samuel, this could be the year Washington fans finally see their team challenge for the division. The Eagles need to do what they can to crush those aspirations early.
