3 Must-Win Games on Kansas City Chiefs 2022 Schedule
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs overhauled their roster after a bitterly disappointing collapse in the AFC Championship game to the Bengals.
Only three offensive players remain from the 2019 Super Bowl champion roster (Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, & Mecole Hardman) as Tyreek Hill was shipped to the Dolphins in the offseason.
We're going to see a completely new offense for Kansas City, and they've invested in their defense in hopes of improving from a disastrous start to last year's campaign.
Kansas City's divisional rivals have upgraded in huge ways, as well. Russell Wilson is now quarterbacking a stout Broncos roster, the Chargers added a number of playmakers on both sides of the ball, and the Raiders brought in Davante Adams to help keep pace.
WynnBET Sportsbook has the Chiefs listed at +160 to win the AFC West, +525 to win the AFC and +1000 to win the Super Bowl. If the Chiefs are going to win the AFC West for the seventh consecutive season, here are three must-win games on their schedule:
3 Must-Win Games for the Chiefs
vs Denver Broncos
The AFC West is going to be a bloodbath in 2022. Kansas City has won 13 consecutive games against the Broncos, but Russell Wilson is the best quarterback Denver has had since Peyton Manning.
With a difficult schedule overall and upgraded rosters in the division, the Chiefs can ill-afford to lose the advantages they've built up against their rivals. Kansas City must beat Denver at home or risk losing their AFC West crown.
vs Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers might be really stinking good this year. Justin Herbert was a machine last season, and now they've upgraded their defense significantly in adding Khalil Mack and J.C. Johnson.
It's a lot to ask the Chiefs to go undefeated in the AFC West, or even to pick up wins in all their divisional road games. But they have to win their home matchups. They need to maintain distance between themselves and their rising foes, and beating the Chargers at home is a must to accomplish that.
@ Cincinnati Bengals
Kansas City's AFC Championship collapse felt impossible even as it was happening. Patrick Mahomes crumbled, Andy Reid made confounding coaching decisions, and Joe Burrow took advantage of the Chiefs' complacency to make the Super Bowl.
If the Chiefs have learned from their mistakes, beating the Bengals on the road is necessary to prove it to themselves. Losing a third straight game to Cincinnati would make the Bengals a clear favorite in the playoffs, and Kansas City isn't used to being the underdog.
In order to show that the AFC still runs through Kansas City, the Chiefs must beat the Bengals on the road.
