3 PGA Tour Golfers Set to Breakout in 2022
The new PGA Tour season has begun, and as we ease into the 2022 schedule, it's a good time to take a look at which golfers will have breakout a year.
Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, and Will Zalatoris are among the top names of golfers who turned into household names and popular targets for sports bettors this past season. So who should we pay attention to this year?
Here are the top five PGA Tour golfers who are set up for a breakout year in 2022. All odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.
2022 PGA Tour Breakout Players
- Mito Pereira
- Taylor Pendrith
- Hayden Buckley
- Sahith Theegala
- Rasmus Højgaard
Mito Peteira
Mito Pereira is likely the name on the list that's already the most recognizable. The 26-year old Chilean has already become a popular betting target for many golf bettors across the internet, but he's in a great position to establish himself as a top-tier golfer on Tour in 2022.
He's made the cut in all seven starts on the PGA Tour to date. He's already competed in a handful of events, and he finished in third place in the first event of the season, the Fortinet Championship. Don't be surprised if he plays himself into a spot on the President's Cup team by the end of the summer.
Taylor Pendrith
Of course I'm going to have a fellow Canadian on the list. Taylor Pendrith is quite a bit older than your typical rookie on the PGA Tour, but at 30 years old, he has the experience and consistency that not many of the other first-timers have. He average drive was over 300 yards on the Korn Ferry Tour last season, and he hit 72.8% of greens.
He already has a top five finish, finishing in fifth place at the Bermuda Championship this season. He can quickly establish himself as one of the top Canadian's on the PGA Tour.
Hayden Buckley
Hayden Buckley is another name that will be in the mix for rookie of the year, and he's already got off to a hot start. He has two top 10 finishes in only five starts so far this season. He finished eighth at the Shriners Children's Open and fourth at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
He finished third in ball striking and ninth in greens in regulation on the Korn Ferry Tour last season, so expect him to be in contention on a regular basis now that he has his Tour card.
Sahith Theegala
For anyone who follows college golf, Sahith Theegala being on this listed is no surprise. In his final collegiate season at Pepperdine, Theegala pulled off the sweep of the player awards by winning the Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and the Haskins award for player of the year.
This is a name you may want to target with your bets before the rest of the world finds out about this 20-year old phenom.
Rasmus Højgaard
European Tour fans are already well aware of this 20-year old Danish golfer, but he's going to become a known name in North America sooner rather than later. He already has five professional wins to his name, with three of them coming on the European Tour.
He also has a twin brother Nicolai, and the two became the first brothers to win in back-to-back weeks on the European Tour last season. He'll be the next big European name to look out for when he competes in the United States.
