3 Picks to be Named UEFA Euro Player of the Tournament
It may be happening a year after it was originally scheduled, but the UEFA European Championship is finally set to kick-off this Friday. While France is the betting favorite to win the tournament, there are plenty of countries that are expected to put on a strong showing throughout the event.
With the tournament featuring some of the best soccer players in the world, who will come out on top as the Player of the Tournament?
Here are my three picks to win the award. All odds listed are via WynnBET.
Kylian Mbappé +1100
Mbappé is the betting favorite to win the award, and for good reason. Since the Player of the Tournament award was introduced in 1996, the award has been given to a player from the winning team five of six times. The only time it did not go to a player from the winning team was in 2016, when Antoine Greizmann won the award despite being on France, who finished as the runner-up.
With France being set as the betting favorite, there’s a solid chance that they end up in the finals for the second straight edition of the tournament.
Mbappé, who was an integral part in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, was named the best young player of the tournament at just 19 years old. Now with three more years of experience under his belt, as well as being the best player on arguably the best team, he’s a great bet to win the award at +1100.
Kevin De Bruyne +2000
Belgium may not be the first country you think of when you think of soccer powerhouses, but it's currently listed fourth on the odds list to win the European Championship.
If you think Belgium can go on a run, Kevin De Bruyne is a great bet to make to win the Player of the Tournament. He has 21 goals in 80 international appearances for his country, and he was a key piece of Manchester City’s English Premier League championship this season. While an injury had many people concerned he wouldn’t be able to compete in the tournament, recent reports have indicated that he’ll only miss the first game.
While Belgium teammate Romelu Lukaku is also on the odds list at +1400, De Bruyne is the better option at +2000 if you’re looking for more betting value.
Mason Mount +3000
If the English can get over their snakebitten history in international competition, Mason Mount is as good of a dark horse as you’ll find to be named the Player of the Tournament. The 22-year old is primed to breakout on the international scene, and he’s coming off a fantastic season for Chelsea.
Mount was voted as Chelsea’s Player of the Year last month, and then he went on to provide the assist for Kay Havertz’s goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City which proved to be the game winner.
You won’t find a better bet at +3000 odds to win the award, but England will have to make it to the finals for him to have any hope.
