3 Players the Denver Broncos Can Trade Before the Trade Deadline
By Reed Wallach
The Denver Broncos are 4-4 on the year, losers of three of their last four, and seem to be set on blowing up their roster.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday morning that the Broncos are trading star linebacker Von Miller to the Los Angeles Rams for draft pick compensation.
Denver is likely to be active ahead of the NFL trade deadline Tuesday afternoon, so let's look at three other candidates to be moved in the next day.
Melvin Gordon, Running Back
Gordon is in the last year of his contract with the Bronocs, and has performed well, averaging more than four yards a carry with five total touchdowns.
However, Denver drafted Javonte Williams in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has made a commitment to using both running backs this season. Now that the team is selling, they can move Gordon and recoup some draft capital for a player who is likely gone after the season anyway.
For what it's worth, Schefter said it's unlikely Gordon gets moved by Tuesday.
Ronald Darby, Cornerback
The Broncos are deep at cornerback, and could move Darby for the right price.
The issue is is that Darby is under contract for at least next season for $9.5 million in guaranteed money. He hasn't been great in his first season in Denver, posting a grade of 60, per Pro Football Focus, but the right team can send a Day 3 Draft pick to the Broncos who are clearly looking to tidy up their cap sheet moving forward.
Tim Patrick, Wide Receiver
Denver has been crushed by injuries in the wide receiving corps this season, losing Jerry Jeudy for significant time already and K.J. Hamler for the year, but Patrick has emerged as a key pass catcher.
Patrick has 30 catches for 424 yards this season to go with three touchdowns and is a free agent at the end of this season. The 6'4" receiver can be a key addition for team's looking for another downfield target in hopes of a postseason run.
