49ers vs. Cardinals Prediction and Odds for NFL Week 11 (Multiple Trends Back Arizona as Big Home Dog)
By Ben Heisler
The Arizona Cardinals may be without Kyler Murray next Monday night when they host the San Francisco 49ers in primetime.
Despite not having their top QB, as well as backup Colt McCoy for a portion of the game, Arizona, led by third stringer Trace McSorley, took down the L.A. Rams on the road in Week 10 by a 27-17 score.
The 49ers survived a Sunday Night Football scare against the L.A. Chargers in Week 10. Their defense stepped up in the comeback victory, limiting Justin Herbert to just 35 passing yards in the second half
Oddsmakers don't appear to have much confidence in Arizona's ability to pull off the upset, but can they at least cover a large number in their home stadium?
Here are the latest lines for this week's NFC West clash on Monday Night Football.
49ers vs. Cardinals Odds, Spread and Total
49ers vs. Cardinals Betting Trends
- Kyle Shanahan is 19-28-1 in his career as a favorite. Kliff Kingsbury is 22-11-2 as an underdog
- Via Covers, Arizona, despite going 1-7 ATS in their last eight games vs. the NFC West, are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games against the 49ers
49ers vs. Cardinals Prediction and Pick
With Murray's status hanging in the desert air, I get why the line opened where it did at 7.5, and also why some books have moved further away from the home underdog in a division game.
The 49ers have a terrific defense, only allowing a robust 4.7 yards/play, allowing no more than 16 points in any of their five wins this season.
However, this sets up about as well as it gets for the Kliff Kingsbury wheelhouse. Over his career, via ESPN Stats & Info, Kingsbury is the only coach in the history of the league since the start of the Super Bowl to have an outright winning record as an underdog, and a losing record when his team is favored.
He's also been fairly successful against the 49ers in his career, going 7-1-1 ATS against the Niners in his last nine games.
If you need more than just trends, consider that the Cardinals' defense has become one of the better units in the league since their Week 1 ass-kicking from the Kansas City Chiefs. Over the course of the season, they actually rank higher than the 49ers in both points per game, as well as takeaways per game,
Arizona has its issues, but not to the point where they can't cover a fairly massive number at home in primetime.
