The San Francisco 49ers came up short in the NFC Championship Game last season against the Los Angeles Rams, but the team could be undergoing a major change in 2022.

After drafting quarterback Trey Lance at No. 3 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the 49ers opted to keep him on the bench behind Jimmy Garoppolo last season, but that may all change in 2022.

The 49ers have been rumored to be shopping Jimmy G, and that would leave the starting job to the dynamic -- yet unproven -- Lance next season. According to 49ers beat writer Jordan Elliott, the perception for the North Dakota State product around the league is that the 49ers should be excited for what is to come.

It's not a surprise that the rest of the NFL is high on Lance, as it appears the oddsmakers in Vegas are as well. San Francisco has the third highest odds at WynnBET to win the Super Bowl next season, as it is tied with the Rams and Tennessee Titans at +1200.

That's a lot of belief in Lance, who showed some potential, but also showed that he is very raw in his two starts during the 2021 season. Lance threw for 603 yards, five scores and two picks through six games of action (two starts), but he completed just 57.7 percent of his passes.

Lance's athletic ability will certainly be a huge part of his game, as he can make plays with his legs like very few other quarterbacks. However, he still has room to grow as a passer and a quarterback in general entering his second season.

Vegas clearly believes in the 49ers, and if you think Lance has a big enough season to bring San Francisco deep in the playoffs, he may be worth a shot as an MVP candidate at +7500 odds.
