76ers vs. Warriors Prediction and Odds: Back Philly Early Before Golden State Gets Cooking

The Philadelphia 76ers have a shot to close out a six-game road trip with a huge upset win against the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.

Problem is, they'll have to do it once again without their best player available in Joel Embiid.

The All-Star center remains out after missing his last eight games due to a positive COVID-19 test, but has been cleared to practice. Meanwhile, Philly could also be without Seth Curry, Tobias Harris and Danny Green who remain questionable to play.

Can a hobbled Sixers squad hang in and cover a double-digit spread on the road, or will the league's best team end their road trip earlier than expected?

Sixers vs. Warriors Prediction and Pick

Here's how I see tonight's marquee matchup going.

The Sixers start off hot, as they have in most first quarters this season, before Golden State starts to heat up midway through the second quarter and into the second half. That's been their M.O. all season, going 8-9 against the spread (ATS) in first quarters this year.

Meanwhile, if you're the Sixers, as motivated as you are to make a statement in this matchup as the defending No. 1 seed in the East, it's an awfully difficult position to be in on the final game of a six-game road trip. Philadelphia would need to win as a double-digit favorite against the best defensive team in the league just to finish at .500 over the last six games. Also, consider that the Warriors in the two games they've been 10.5-point favorites or above have gone 1-0-1 ATS, so they're beating up opponents in games they're supposed to win. They're also 12-4-1 ATS this season with an average ATS +/- of +7.2 via TeamRankings.

While I think the Warriors win and cover, I believe the safer play is to grab the Sixers plus the points in the first quarter, and then try to grab the Warriors live in-game. Philadelphia is a league-best 12-5 ATS in first quarters this year, compared to Golden State who ranks in the middle of the pack.

PICK: Sixers 1st Quarter +3.5 (-110)
