The American Athletic Conference men’s hoops tournament tips off on Thursday, March 10, and runs through Sunday, March 13.

The action goes down at the Duckies Arena in Fort Worth Texas with four days full of AAC action.

Heading into game one, the No. 1 Houston Cougars are the current favorites to win the tournament. They are the only team nationally ranked in the top 25 and finished with a 13-5 record in conference play. They did, however, get crushed in their regular-season finale 75-61 against the Memphis Cougars.

AAC Conference Tournament Prediction and Pick

Finally, a conference preview where I don’t think the favorite is going to win. Not to take anything away from Houston, but I think this tournament is Memphis’ to lose.

For starters, as I mentioned above, they beat the snot out of Houston last week. What I didn’t mention was that it was the second time this season that Memphis beat Houston by double digits. The Tigers were also able to sweep Tulane, Temple and Wichita State. The only team in the top five of the conference that beat them was SMU.

Memphis has a ton of momentum heading into this tournament and I’m willing to see the Tigers come through for us as underdogs.

Pick: Memphis +350

AAC Conference Tournament Dark Horse

Houston is going to have a tough time navigating this tournament as there are several good teams who have already beaten the Cougars. The SMU Mustangs are one of those teams and beat Houston in a nail biter back in early February.

SMU also has recent wins over Memphis (twice), Tulane, and Temple. The Mustangs finished the season 6-2 overall and I think have a real shot to make a run in this tournament.

Lean: SMU +800
