Aaron Rodgers Time With the Packers is Officially On The Clock
Aaron Rodgers' long-term future with the Green Bay Packers is unclear. Rodgers' contract continues to be a hot topic and the team's use of a first-round pick on Jordan Love last year irked the veteran. Speculation has already linked the three-time MVP to his native California and the San Francisco 49ers as a landing spot that makes sense if he's no longer in Green Bay after this season.
Green Bay should be focused on getting back to the Super Bowl this year. They have the second-best odds in the league at +900 on WynnBET to take home the Lombardi trophy. Yet talk around the team continues to center on Rodgers' future rather than their outlook for 2021.
There's an overwhelming sense that Rodgers' days in Green Bay are numbered. Even ESPN insider Adam Schefter agrees with that assessment.
Rodgers could join other legendary QBs like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady who left teams they were synonyms with to finish their careers elsewhere. Green Bay trading up for Love in the draft was a huge statement. They believe in his potential to succeed Rodgers. The All-Pro QB knows how that goes. He took over for Brett Favre in a very similar situation in 2008.
It worked with Rodgers under Favre. Now all eyes are on Love and Rodgers. Complicating matters is Rodgers proving he's one of the best players on the planet by winning MVP in 2020. Throwing 48 TDs to just 5 INTs at age 37 is preposterous. He evidently has enough left in the tank to make this team a contender for years. Or some other team.
The Packers have created a nightmare situation by trying to outsmart everyone. Rodgers is seemingly unhappy, and Love could be too if he's forced to sit much longer. A bold decision regarding either QB's future is the only thing that will solve this mess.
