The entire Green Bay Packers’ offense was stuck in mud in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, but they have a chance to bounce-back against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

Aaron Rodgers thrived in games after losses last season, throwing for 12 touchdowns (four in each game), but tonight’s weather forecast in Green Bay may dictate a more run-heavy script at points for both teams.

That would make Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon even more important to the Packers’ attack, but both players struggled to get anything going in Week 1. Jones finished with just nine rushing yards on five carries, and Dillon wasn’t much better, mustering 19 yards on four carries.

We have to throw Week 1 out the window as an anomaly for the Packers, and oddsmakers seem to have as well. WynnBET has Jones projected to lead the backfield in rushing in Week 2, but Dillon is still expected to have a role, according to the odds

Aaron Jones vs. AJ Dillon Rushing Yards Predictions

Jones: 67.5 (Over -116/Under -115)

Dillon: 35.5 (Over -116/Under -112)

Dillon was more effective than Jones in Week 1, but the sample size is far too small for bettors to expect him to outgain Jones in Week 2. Dillon averaged 5.3 yards per carry as a rookie, and if he sees near double-digit carries in this game, he has a great chance of cashing in on the over.

The Packers are 11.5-point favorites in this matchup, and if they get out to a big early lead, Jones and Dillon could be in clock-killing roles in the second half.

Despite that, I’m still going to take Jones to lead the backfield in rushing yards, as I think Matt LaFleur wants to get his entire offense back on track after Week 1. Making sure that Jones, Rodgers and Davante Adams are all able find success in Week 2 should build the confidence back in the Green Bay offense, but don’t be surprised if Dillon continues to carve out his role with the team in tonight’s contest.
