AL Pennant Odds: Bet Boston Ahead of Wild Card Game
By Reed Wallach
The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are both chasing the Seattle Mariners for the second wild card spot, but things are far from settled.
Heading into Friday’s action on the final weekend of the regular season, Boston holds a one game lead on the Blue Jays and tied with the Seattle Mariners.
However, if you looked at the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook, the AL Pennant market would indicate the standings are shuffled. Look for yourself:
AL Pennant Odds
Houston Astros: +210
Chicago White Sox: +300
Tampa Bay Rays: +300
New York Yankees: +500
Toronto Blue Jays: +800
Boston Red Sox: +900
Seattle Mariners: +4000
The Mariners have been counted out all season and oddsmakers still aren’t giving them a chance even though they are in pole position to host a potential tiebreaker game to make the Wild Card Game if that is necessary. Seattle is home on the final weekend of the regular season against the Angels.
The Red Sox odds are curious as well. Despite being a game ahead of the Blue Jays, and playing the lowly Nationals, Boston’s odds are slightly behind Toronto, who is going to need some help in the final three games to make the postseason. However, they do face the Orioles and will be overwhelming favorites in all three games.
While the Blue Jays may be the most dangerous team if they make the postseason, they are on the outside looking in with the two teams ahead of them facing soft competition as well.
At this number, the Red Sox look like a valuable bet. The team needs to take care of business against the Nats this weekend, but have the best 1-2 duo to go win a potential Game 163 if necessary and also knock off the Yankees -- who are two up with three to play in the Wild Card race -- in Chris Sale and Nathan Eovaldi.
