Allen Lazard Joins Davante Adams on COVID List as Spread Keeps Moving for Packers-Cardinals
By Ben Heisler
When Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, the line for Thursday Night Football between Green Bay and the Arizona Cardinals took a sizable jump from +3 all the way to +6.
Now, the Packers are adding another impact pass catcher to the list, as Allen Lazard joins Adams; likely taking him off the field for Aaron Rodgers and company Thursday evening in Glendale, Ariz.
Lazard came off his best game of the season in Week 7 vs. the Washington Football team, catching five of his six targets for 60 yards and a touchdown reception. He now has back-to-back games with a touchdown after failing to score in the first five games for the Packers.
With Lazard and Adams both out, Green Bay is without its top leading receivers in both receptions as well as receiving yards. At the moment, Randall Cobb, Equanimeous St. Brown and Amari Rodgers are the only receivers currently on the 53-man roster with Marquez Valdes-Scantling still on injured reserve.
Arizona, after seeing their odds at WynnBET move from -3 to -6 after the Davante Adams news, saw another uptick yet again to -6.5.
Rodgers, last season's Most Valuable Player, will need a major performance to out-duel this year's current favorite to win MVP, quarterback Kyler Murray. Murray leads at WynnBET at +300 odds, with Rodgers five back of him at +1200.
Don't count Rodgers out just because his top two wideouts may not play. Our Peter Dewey found one stat that hints that Rodgers may be in line for a very solid outing even when his best targets are no longer available. A huge game could catapult his odds back into this year's MVP race.
