Alvin Kamara Suspension Could Kill Saints Win Projections
While most people were focused on the drama surrounding in the NBA Draft last night, an important news dump happened in the NFL that could change the entire trajectory of the NFC South.
According to Mike Florio, Saints All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara "is bracing" to be suspended "at least six weeks" amidst sexual assault allegations levied on him during the Pro Bowl. The "at least six weeks" part is a foreboding piece of news for anyone who already bet the Saints.
Kamara missed four games last season and the Saints went 0-4 without him. When he was on the field, they went 9-4. No surprise given his importance in that offense, but certainly a warning sign for bettors.
Currently, the Saints win total is set at 8.5 games at WynnBET, with the UNDER a -115 favorite against the OVER at +105. They're +350 to win the NFC South and +3000 to win the Super Bowl, but if Kamara's out for six or more games, it'll be tough to cash on any of those -- except perhaps the UNDER.
Kamara was arrested in Las Vegas on felony battery charges stemming from a reported fight the night before the Pro Bowl. His next hearing is in August. When the case is settled, the NFL could levy the suspension, which could be a crushing blow for a Saints team already adjusting to the departure of former coach Sean Peyton.
If I was taking a side on this bet, which I'm not right now, I'd take the UNDER 8.5 wins. Even with a healthy Jameis Winston and a solid defense, this Saints team is facing several uncertainties. If they're without the linchpin of their offense for the first third of the season, that could derail their season before it gets going.
