AL vs NL Prediction and Odds for MLB All-Star Game (Trust Two Key Trends)
By Peter Dewey
The Mid-Summer Classic between the American League and the National League takes place on Tuesday night, as the AL looks to win a ninth straight All-Star Game.
There is plenty of star power that will be on display on both teams, and we broke down the rosters for the AL and NL here.
Even though the American League has won eight straight games, oddsmakers have the NL favored in this matchup. The odds have shifted since yesterday at WynnBET, as the American League has moved from a plus money underdog on the moneyline to -103 to win.
The total in this game has remained at eight runs with the UNDER juiced heavily compared the OVER.
Let’s check out the latest odds and make a pick for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game:
American League vs. National League Odds, Run Line and Total
Run Line:
- AL +1.5 (-215)
- NL -1.5 (+175)
Moneyline:
- AL: -103
- NL: -107
Total:
- 8 (Over +105/Under -125)
American League vs. National League Prediction and Pick
It’s important not to get too caught up in the rosters, as players usually all play a short stint in order for everyone to get a chance in the Mid-Summer Classic.
There are two key trends to know before betting on this game, and they’re helping me make my picks for this matchup.
First off, the American League dominates the All-Star Game, and it has for nearly three decades. Over the last 24 All-Star Games, the AL is 20-3-1 overall. It may seem like a trap to bet on them as an underdog here, but it’s hard to dispute that betting the AL has been the move since the late 1990s.
The other trend that I am intrigued by has to do with the total. The UNDER is 12-3 in the last 15 All-Star Games. I think there are two reasons for this. One, pitchers really are only being asked to go all out for one inning, and hitters are being thrown in for just one or two at bats.
That makes it hard to get any sort of rhythm going at the dish and allows pitchers to throw their full arsenal at the batters they face knowing they won't face them again.
Since 2000, 13 MLB All-Star Games have combined for eight or fewer runs. It seems like a square play, but I’m leaning towards that trend continuing again in 2022.
Leans: American League ML (-103) | UNDER 8 (-125)
