Every series is a critical one moving forward for the Toronto Blue Jays, who hold a slim lead for an AL Wild Card spot in a competitive race.

Toronto has lost seven of Alek Manoah's last 10 starts, but he's got a winnable matchup today against a Los Angeles Angels squad that ranks 27th in OPS against right-handed pitchers this month. Despite the losses, Manoah still has a 2.66 ERA on the season.

Los Angeles turns to Shohei Ohtani, who are on the losing end of five of his last six starts. He's been fantastic regardless, with a 2.83 ERA.

Can the Ohtani pull off a rare upset to play spoiler or will Manoah get Toronto back on track?

Angels vs Blue Jays Prediction and Pick

I've been down on the Toronto Blue Jays all season, but even I haven't expected the offense to completely disappear in random stretches the way it has. This is a club with firepower all throughout the lineup, and its performance is a bit shocking.

How else do you explain losses in seven of Manoah's last 10 starts despite strong numbers from the ace? Even still, Manoah remains one of MLB's best young pitchers and should dominate Los Angeles.

Only the Angels could waste Ohtani's prime, and they're well on their way to doing so. If you gave the Angels the Dodgers' roster, this pathetic franchise would still find a way to lose 95+ games. It's unreal.

But Ohtani is Ohtani, so I'm not comfortable fading him against a beatable lineup. Instead, I'll look to the first five innings under for value. Each pitcher can dominate the opposing lineup, and I think we'll see zeroes for a good portion of the game early on.

Back the first five under in a stellar pitcher's dual before the bullpens find a way to mess things up late.

Pick: First Five Innings Under
