Angels vs. Mariners Prediction and Odds for Saturday, June 18 (Over is Play with Bullpen Expected to Be Involved)
By Reed Wallach
Two AL West teams trying to build momentum continue on their weekend set.
We have two likely bullpen games between the Angels and Mariners with Jose Suraez and Justus Sheffield set to start on Saturday night. Sheffield has battled injuries this season and posted an ERA of 8.51 in 30-plus innings of work with the Mariners AAA team. Meanwhile, the Angels will counter with Suarez, who typically pitches around four innings.
Here are the odds for Saturday night's meeting out west from consensus sportsbooks:
Angels vs. Mariners Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Angels: -1.5 (+118)
- Mariners: +1.5 (+108)
Moneyline:
- Angels: -126
- Mariners: +108
Total: 8.5 (Over -118/Under -104)
Angels vs. Mariners Prediction and Pick
I'm going with a contrarian pick over here between two teams that struggle to hit lefties, each bottom 10 in OPS this season. However, I don't expect Suarez or Sheffield to pitch very long into this one. Sheffield hasn't pitched more than two innings this season and hasn't been with the big league club since the end of April.
So, if Sheffield isn't going to go long, and this is already the second half of a double header it is fair to expect a poor showing from the Mariners bullpen that already has the 11th highest ERA in baseball. Even if the Angels start slow, I expect them to eventually get going on the offensive side of the ball.
On the mound, the Angels will count on Suarez to pass through the lineup at least once. The lefty has struggled quite a bit as an opener this season, and the bullpen hasn't done much better, bottom half in ERA this season.
Again, this is the second half of a double header so we can expect some gassed bullpens, I'll look to the over in one that has shaky pitching all over.
LEAN: OVER 8.5
