It’s been two wildly different seasons for the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners. The Angels have posted a disappointing record of 75-84, with superstar Mike Trout out with an injury since May 17th and Anthony Rendon out since July 4th. Both big bats in the Angels lineup appeared in a combined 94 games.

The Mariners have posted a surprising record of 89-70, sit tied with the Boston Red Sox for the second AL Wild Card spot, and are looking to make the postseason for the first time since 2001. That was Ichiro Suzuki’s rookie season, a long time ago.

Seattle can grab the sole possession of the second AL Wild Card spot tonight if they can pick up a win and the Boston Red Sox lose to the Washington Nationals.

Both clubs will send a lefty to the mound tonight. Jose Suarez (7-8, 3.86 ERA) will start for Los Angeles and Marco Gonzales (10-5, 4.00 ERA) will start for the Mariners. Both lefties have pitched similarly as of late, with Suarez posting an ERA of 3.79 in his last seven starts compared to Gonzales’ ERA of 3.77 in his last seven outings.

Angels vs. Mariners Odds

Moneyline:

Angels +140

Mariners -165

Run Line:

Angels +1.5 (-145)

Mariners -1.5 (+125)

Total:

7.5 (Over -115/Under -105)

Angels vs. Mariners Prediction

Suarez and Gonzales have amazingly allowed identical batting averages against each other's opposing teams this season. Suarez has a .229 (11-for-48) opponent average against Seattle, Gonzales has a .229 (11-for-48) opponent average against Los Angeles; and each has allowed five RBI.

This game looks like it could come down to the bullpen. With the Mariners bullpen ERA of 3.88 over the Angels 4.63 bullpen ERA, gives Seattle the edge here in this close matchup.

Plus, in a battle of lefties on the mound, I like the right handed bats of Ty France and Mitch Haniger in the Mariners lineup.

I’ll take Seattle on the run line tonight with the -1.5 being valued at +125.
