Angels vs. Red Sox Prediction and Odds for Thursday, May 5 (Angels Look to Get Back on Track at Fenway)
By Matt De Saro
The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels close out their three-game midweek series this afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox have been one of the bigger disappointments so far this year and are in danger of falling into the basement of the AL East. Things are so bad that Boston lost a series against Baltimore before heading home to take on LA. Meanwhile, the Angels hold a 1.5 game lead over the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.

Angels vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick
The Angels are a good bet to take Game 3 on Thursday for a number of reasons.
Shohei Ohtani makes his fifth start of the year. He has been a bit up and down to start the season, but his skills are undeniable. Ohtani’s strikeout to walk rate is particularly impressive at 30:5. The struggling Red Sox currently ranked 20th in batting average and 23rd in runs scored.
Rich Hill gets the nod for Boston on Thursday and is putting together a surprisingly decent year. At 42-years-old, Hill’s days of pitching deep into games are over. But, he’s doing good work in the first four innings of the game. However, I see two problems with this. One is that Hill is pitching over his head and is due for regression. The other is that Hill’s starts putting a lot of pressure on the bullpen. Boston’s bullpen has a rough 3.55 ERA and is a decent bet to collapse on any given night.
This feels like a good day for the Angels to get back in the groove at the expense of Hill and Boston’s bullpen.
Pick: Angels -1.5 (+112)
