Both the Angels and Royals won yesterday. I'm not sure the data on this, but it feels rare to have a day in which both of these terrible teams pull out a victory.

There can only be one winner today of course, as the clubs open a three-game series in Kansas City with Noah Syndergaard taking on Zack Greinke.

The Royals put up five runs on Syndergaard a few weeks ago, and they hope for a similar result today. Syndergaard has a 5.06 ERA over his last four starts as he's struggling with command. He's been bad on the road this season, with a 1-5 record and 5.96 ERA, and the Royals have been hitting the ball well of late.

Los Angeles exploded for nine runs yesterday to win just their third game this month, though I'm not sure they'll have the same success against Greinke, who has a dazzling 1.86 ERA at home. Kansas City has won each of Greinke's last four starts at Kaufman Stadium - can he stay hot or will Syndergaard get back on track?

Angels vs Royals Prediction and Pick

I'm in Kansas City and it's raining a ton. This game may not even be played, but if it is, then runs are going to be hard to come by.

That already felt like the case with this pitching matchup, as both Syndergaard and Greinke have been automatic under bets of late. The under is 5-1 in Syndergaard's last six starts and 7-0-1 in Greinke's home outings this season.

Greinke has become sort of the elder statesman of MLB starting pitchers, utilizing a crafty arsenal to fool batters. He's allowed just two runs total in his last three home starts and the Angels terrible lineup is still terrible, yesterday's barrage notwithstanding.

Syndergaard is a strong pitcher in his own right, but this is still the Angels we're talking about. Yesterday was just their second win as a road underdog since May 14th. That's right - they have two wins in this spot over the last 10 weeks.

The Royals, on the other hand, has won four straight home starts by Greinke and are 5-1 in their last six as a home favorite. I'll back Kansas City to pull off the win in a low-scoring game. Fingers crossed this rain lets up and we get some baseball in!

Pick: Royals (-110) and Under 8.0 (-115)
