Had I written this article as a long-term preview during the preseason,  I would have found 100 reasons to bet on the White Sox to beat the Angels. However,  things have gone so very wrong for the White Sox out of the gate. This team was supposed to run away with the AL Central for the second year in a row. Instead, they just broke an eight-game losing streak on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. Chicago has a losing record and looks nothing like the team I expected them to be.

The Angels, on the other hand, are battling with the Mariners for the lead in the AL West. They are also coming off an impressive sweep of the Cleveland Guardians by a combined score of 16-6. The Angels also have a huge advantage on the mound here with a revitalized Noah Syndergaard getting the start.

Angels vs. White Sox Prediction and Pick

Syndergaard is definitely an early candidate for best offseason pickup for a team. The Angels took a big chance on Thor after he missed the whole 2020 season and pitched just two innings in 2021. But in his first 17 innings of work this year, Syndergaard has a 2.12 ERA and 0.82 WHIP for LA. He has a strikeout to walk rate of 11/4 and has yet to give up a home run.

Not only is Syndergaard dealing, but the White Sox’s offense is terrible right now. They rank 23rd in batting average at .213 and are 24th in runs per game at 3.35. Chicago also is the worst team in the league at drawing walks.

That doesn’t mean that the White Sox have nothing going for them here. Lucas Giolito is one of the best arms in the league and will battle it out with Syndergaard on Friday. Giolito has a 1.13 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in his first two starts with 15 strikeouts and five walks.

I expect these two pitchers to be locked in a ready to duel tonight. I have no faith in the White Sox offense and the Angels have been hit or miss so far this year. I’m going to take a chance on the starters here in what could be an epic early-season duel.

Pick: UNDER 7.5
