The Appalachian State Mountaineers picked up a big win against the Georgia State Panthers last time out, winning 45-16 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Mountaineers’ quarterback Chase Brice completed 21 of 29 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns as the App State offense collected 502 total yards.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns picked up a narrow two-point win over the South Alabama Jaguars in their last contest, holding on to win 20-18, despite not scoring any points in the second half.

Quarterback Levi Lewis struggled for Louisiana, completing just nine of 20 passes for a measly 49 yards and zero touchdowns, but did have 66 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

App State vs. Louisiana Prediction

The Mountaineers offense has been better than the Ragin’ Cajuns’ this season. The Mountaineers have averaged 284.2 passing yards per game to the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 229 passing yards per game, averaged 197.2 rushing yards per game to Louisiana’s 170.6, and 35.2 points per game to the Ragin’ Cajuns’ 28.4.

Louisiana’s defense has been just good enough to allow its mediocre offense to outscore its opponents, but three of its four wins have been one-possession wins, including a three-point victory over FCS Nicholls State on Sept. 11.

Appalachian State has managed to win by much larger margins, so I feel comfortable backing it this week over Louisiana, and I’ll take the Mountaineers on the spread at -2.5.
