Are the Colts the Most Undervalued Team in the NFL?
By Reed Wallach
Slowly, but surely, the Indianapolis Colts are climbing back towards playoff contention.
The Colts had a brutal preseason with injuries, including quarterback Carson Wentz, guard Quenton Nelson, and wide receiver T.Y. Hilton. The team started 0-3 and were counted out early.
However, the team has fought back and now sit at 3-4, just outside the playoff picture heading into a massive AFC South matchup with the Tennessee Titans.
Is the betting public undervaluing the Colts? If not for a crazy comeback from the Ravens, the team is 4-3 on the year and the sentiment is much different around the roster.
Let's break down their place in the Futures market at WynnBET Sportsbook to see if there is any value in Indy moving forward.
Colts to Win AFC South: +300
To handicap this market we need to start by looking at the Colts game against the division leading Titans on Sunday. Indy is +1 at WynnBET as of this writing, trailing by two games.
While Indianapolis is on the rise, a loss here may sink its chances of winning the division, as the Colts would essentially be four back of the Titans considering they would lose the tiebreaker.
That being said, if you believe in this Colts team, and that they win Sunday, this is the time to bet them to win the division. The team faces the Jets and Jaguars the following two weeks and have a second game against Jacksonville down the road.
Meanwhile, the Titans face the Rams in Los Angeles and the Saints in the next two weeks, they can cede some ground to Indianapolis.
This week is important, but the Colts have value long term as a dark horse division winner.
Colts to Win the Super Bowl: +7500
This price seems right.
While the Colts may have value on a game-by-game basis, the team still is far from a Super Bowl contender. At this rate, the team's most likely path to the postseason is going to be through the division, which is going to be an uphill battle against the Titans. I'd rather take a stab at +300 to win the AFC South than to make a Super Bowl run, I still have the Colts far away from Super Bowl contention.
Carson Wentz's decision making is still a concern, and Indy still has injury concerns in the secondary.
I'd lay off a long shot and go for a fair price on +300 to win the division and look to buy low on the Colts in the coming weeks.
