San Diego State plays host to Bobby Hurley's Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday night.

While the Aztecs were handed their first loss of the season against a formidable opponent in BYU on the road, this SDSU club is primed for success this season.

The team lost Matt Mitchell from last season's NCAA Tournament team, but Brian Dutcher brought in Matt Bradley from Cal through the transfer portal and has several vets back like Nathan Mensah.

Will the Aztecs cover at home against a floundering Arizona State team? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook.

  • San Diego State: -8 (-110)

Arizona State vs. San Diego State Pick and Prediction

Arizona State has been one of my favorite fades early in the season, going 0-3 against the spread as a favorite, and now will be catching a big number against the Aztecs.

However, I still see San Diego State worthy of a bet. The sloppy ball handling of Arizona State is going to prove problematic against SDSU's impenetrable defense. The Aztecs are constantly amongst KenPom's elite defensive metrics, and this year is no different, eighth as of this writing.

I don't trust this Arizona State roster, who is full of new pieces from last year's roster and still taking time to come together. The team lost nearly two-thirds of their production from last season, and going on the road to face San Diego State is a tough ask.

San Diego State is flirting with the bottom of the country in terms of tempo, 286th so far this season, while Arizona State wants to score in transition, but will struggle to do so against the disciplined Aztecs defense.

Dutcher's squad nearly won on the road at BYU and handled UC-Riverside (who beat Arizona State at the buzzer last week) by 13 despite shooting 15% from beyond the arc. There is positive regression coming from deep and I believe they will find it at home against an inferior opponent.

I like San Diego State to win by double digits and will play this spread up to -9.

PICK: San Diego State -8
