Astros vs. Angels Prediction and Odds (Prepare For Saturday's Best Pitching Duel)
By Matt De Saro
This game could be one of the best pitching matchups of the weekend. Or, one of the worst. This is because, while the game features two Cy Young caliber pitchers, they have just two starts between them since 2020. Noah Syndergaard and Justin Verlander are both making their long-awaited return to the mound after lengthy injury absences.
Verlander, a two-time Cy Young winner, did not pitch at all in 2021 after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The last time he threw a pitch was in July of 2020 and has just six total innings in the last two years. He is, however, one of the best pitchers the sport has ever seen.
Syndergaard is another elite pitcher making a long-awaited return. The Angels took a chance by signing him to a one-year deal after making his own recovery from Tommy John.
Both pitchers have a career ERA of 3.32 and, if all goes well, we could be in for a show.

Astros vs. Angels Prediction and Pick
The situation these two pitchers are in makes this a unique game to bet on. It's not often you have two former (current?) elite pitchers who have combined to pitch less than nine innings in the last couple of years going head to head. Both guys looked sharp in spring training. Verlander hurled 13 ⅔ innings while striking out 15 and allowing just two runs. Thor coughed up just one run in 8 ⅔ innings with 11 strikeouts. It’s spring ball, but still, this is a good sign for both the Astros and Angels.
Ohtani and Trout, I think will be the difference makers tonight. I am going to assume that Verlander and Thor have at least decent debuts for the 2022 season. But, in the end, the Astros bullpen will fall to a phenomenal Angels offense.
Pick: Angels -102 to win
